First of all, sorry to have been away from the keyboard over the last week or so. I suffered from a lack of creativity!
Today, get clarity about your true self, and you can reach new levels of – well of whatever! I like this quote from Auguste Comte: Know yourself to improve yourself. I find that most of us have a very superficial understanding of ourself. Often, we see ourself as others have told us we are. Or, we see ourself as what we do. But, you are more than what you do. Deep down inside you are you! (Pretty good Dr. Seuss imitation, huh?)
One of the things I’ve noticed with my coaching clients is that they usually haven’t taken a good inventory of who they are. Sounds a bit weird, right? Yet, it is so true. That is not meant as a slam, it is just the way we are. Seldom do we really study and think about our strengths, our weaknesses, our values, our beliefs, the real person that we are created to be.
Often, this is because of things we have done. We listen to the inner critic, and we assume the critic is correct. So, we adopt that image as our self-image, and we live our lives in line with that. This is a critical piece to understand, because a person will never consistently out perform their own self-image.
So, who are you? In the facets of your life, who is the real you? I often meet people who say they just want to be themselves, yet they lack that thing called authenticity. Often, they are trying very hard to be someone else. That is such a waste of precious material. You were created as a unique individual, and you are needed in this world to be that person.
Today, I encourage you to take inventory. You might even want to start be taking a great personality inventory, and then reading the report. Dig in. Study what it says. See your strengths (they should be your focus in growth). See your weaknesses (they should make you aware and cautious).
At the very least, ask yourself if you are being true to yourself – the real you. Or, are you just trying to be who others want or expect you to be?
I promise you, you will be a lot more at peace with yourself when you are being yourself!

Until next time, make your’s a great day!
