What Keeps Us From Growing? Where do those roadblocks on the journey to the you God is making come from?
Inside of each of us, their are desires to be a better version of ourselves. We “know” we can be more, and that we can achieve more.
So, why do we shy away from our internal desires to stretch and grow into more of the person that is in us? Simply put, we are afraid. Fear is a strong emotion and can be very positive. If I am walking through the woods and come upon a Copperhead, fear will help me avoid being bitten. That is a good thing, right.
Then again, if we desire to make positive changes in our life that allow us to grow into a more fulfilled and successful person, and our fear keeps us from doing that, then that fear is a negative, right?
Where does that fear come from? It is usually the result of our imagination. We play a negative “what if?” game. We devise scenarios in our head about all that can go wrong, and that feeds our fear of failure, embarrassment, or even success. Yes, many people fear success. Why? It is likely because they don’t want the pressure, or they have the mindset (developed from childhood) that they don’t deserve success. I know that might sound harsh, but that is life.
Rather than focusing only on what could go wrong, try focusing on what could go right.
As we are growing from childhood to adulthood, we have experiences, we are told things, and often the things we are told are coming from wounded people who are stuck in their rut, and are blaming everything and everyone for their lack of growth and success. Everyone and everything except themselves and their own decisions.
Don’t allow yourself to be one of them. You are not what others think or say you are. You are not even who you might think you are. Have you had failure? News flash! We have all had failure. I’ve had more than my share. In fact most of my experience, knowledge and wisdom was bought. Right, bought with the pain and agony of failure. BUT, experiencing failure, does not mean that you are a failure. Recognize that you are valuable. You are unique. You are more than what someone told you you are. You are more than any actions and results you have experienced.
Continue with me on this journey as we “peel the onion” of our thinking, in order to think more positive and empowering thoughts. As we do that, actions and results will begin to change. End result: You will be more fulfilled and you will make a difference in the lives of others. Subscribe to stay on the journey!
