If you are trying to be someone else, you will be a poor copy and you will rob the world of the person you are designed to be.
One sign of maturity is that a person is comfortable in their own skin. They don’t put on airs, and they don’t feel like they have to work hard at making others like them. The fact is that not everyone is going to like you. So, don’t let that bother you. Just be a likable person and you will find those who appreciate you.
Someone reading this just posed this question in their mind: Oh no, were supposed to like everyone. Nope! We are to love everyone, whether we like them or not. To love others is to value them and be willing to sacrifice in order to do what you can to help them. To like someone requires some measure of affinity.
So, quit trying to be someone other than who you are in order to get people to like you. Just be yourself, but be the best version of yourself. You will exert far less energy and stress.
What does it look like to be likable? Here are my top 10 – in no particular order.
- Be confident, but not cocky.
- Be friendly, but not mushy.
- Be helpful, but not bossy.
- Be considerate, but not compromising of your values.
- Value others, but not needy.
- Add value to others, but not a fixer.
- Be a person of integrity, but not inflexible.
- Be real, but not arrogant.
- Be a good listener, but not a gossip.
- Be interested in others, but not intrusive.
Here’s the deal. You cannot be responsible for the attitudes, decisions and actions of others. You can only be responsible for you. If a person doesn’t like you and want to connect with you, that just means they were put here to like other people and to connect with them. It doesn’t mean you are a nothing.
So, get out there and let the world see the person God made you to be. You will find that more people will like YOU than you ever imagined.
Make Your’s A Great Day!
